Qualifications for Membership


Membership in the United States Section of the International Police Association is open to any qualified active or retired law enforcement officer from a recognized federal, state, or local agency, meeting the requirement criteria as established by the United States Section Bylaws.

Membership is open to all active serving or retired sworn members of a duly organized local, city, state or federal law enforcement agency or department, who are or were employed full time in the enforcement of the general criminal laws of their state, or of the federal government.

If retired, retirement must be based upon 20 or more years of service, or be of a disability nature.

Membership is obtainable by all qualified individuals regardless of rank, gender, ethnicity, nationality, or creed.

Members of the Military Police from any of the branches of the Armed Forces of the U.S. Government are not eligible for membership in the IPA.

Status will be verified with the appropriate agency.
